They work in tandem. I now have 3 , one for each floor and can walk quickly with no interruption.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, because of a hardware/software flaw in the Orbi (that I am now suffering through), if you are near both you will see disconnects about ever 5 minutes... all day long. I think it forces a disconnect every 5 mins to switch/check to see if you are nearer one, and then there is a hard disconnect if you are on the Satellite unit. DO NOT PURCHASE... get something else... Eero or Google Wifi, or one strong unit for the center of your house.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. It would only switch if the signal strength from the initially connected unit diminishes considerably.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It is possible when you are exactly between two nodes. i have seen this happen
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The Orbi system is designed to create a mesh network under a single SSID, unlike what you would normally experience with extenders. For information on how the Orbi system differs from extenders: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/31031/~/how-is-an-orbi-system-different-from-an-extender%3F?cid=wmt_netgear_organic
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. It just moves back and forth as needed as far as I can tell. It's a pretty amazing system. 1) it keeps EVERYTHING (2.4G, 5G, whether connected to satellite or main Orbi) as part of your main wireless LAN (only ONE wifi name, and ALL IP addresses can talk to each other) - looks like a flat IP block. 2) Bandwidth on my home system (previously Nighthawk N1900 I think) DOUBLED both in up and download speed. 3) the management tools are very straightforward, but pretty useful. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Interesting question. I do not know. Have not seen or read where this question has come up before. I can say that I replaced my entire Apple based wifi and have been blown away with the Orbi. Absolutely far superior to Apple. Good luck Ron
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes your wireless device will connect seamlessly to which ever Orbi it is closest to or getting the strongest signal. I have had no loss of signal as I walk through out my house from Orbi to Orbi. I also have three wireless TV streaming video right in the middle of the Ori base and Orbi satellite without any issue. Full wifi bars on all devices.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.i really can't tell. to be honest ,i see no improvement since adding the orbi, quite disappointing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, this would not flip back and forth between the two.
