The purpose is flexibility; I don't want to run cable down a stairwell to the satellite, nor from the satellite to the entertainment center, but you do seem to have those options. Try different configurations and find out which one gives you the best signal where you want it. Go wireless between router and satellite, or from satellite to Dishnet, and report back.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't really know. I was considering connecting the base to the satellite with Ethernet cable, but decided to try using the wireless capability first. The distance between both in my house is about 45-50 ft and I have not had any issues with the two communicating with each other. I've read in several places that it is OK to connect Ethernet cable. So, I don't know if you are defeating the power of the system, but if you are concerned, you might try connecting without the cable and see what happens.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would not connect the laptop via cable. The orbi wireless connection is powerful enough where hardwire connection is almost redundant. If The Hopper works on wireless, would recommend the same. I don't have anything hardwired to the Orbi (except for the cable modem).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You have the option of connecting via WiFi or with a wired connection. Your speeds will be determined predominantly by the devices themselves and their support abilities.
