Are you currently using the Orbi system ? If not, you can place the Orbi Router in the same room with your current modem. You can then place the satellite in the main house to get coverage. The distance and thickness of the wall will affect the performance. Try to line up the Orbi router and Orbi satalite and minimize the distance. I live in an old house with plaster walls with a modem in the basement and the satellite on the third floor. I have great coverage for the firestick on my third floor. Buy the system and try it out. You can always return it, last I checked it should not have a open box fee. If you have a Orbi system and are having trouble, contact NetGear you have free support. They are pretty good at helping customers out.
