I saw no way to use the primary as a satellite when setting up the Orbi system. Netgear will be selling Satellites separately, though. I'd suggest waiting on that. Also, "big home" means different things to different people. I don't know if you're talking about 15,000sf or 4000sf. If closer to 4k, then the single base and satellite may be sufficient.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.each set is already "synch'd" with each other and just requires a simple button press to join them. However I have heard that you can buy extra satellites soon and once you do, all you would have to do is hit the sync button on them and confirm the M.A.C address with the control panel for the main router. I will tell you from experience with "repeaters" that once they are connected it will give you wifi and it will be decent, but the speed will be cut in half of that of the main unit. That is just how it works in the real world. However since the wifi is quite fast and has large area of coverage you will most likely not notice that difference from a older router speed . My wifi is running at 850Mbs and satellite runs around 500 Mbs, but since my older router was only pushing 300-400Mbs I did not really care since on that end of the house it was just tablets, phone and such that were maxed out on speed anyway
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. That is correct. As I was looking through the settings in the router I noticed you could make the router enter "Access Point" mode. I didn't understand why someone would need to do that, but it looks like now I know!
I would recommend:
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. From what I can tell, no, you can't get the same seamless integration with two routers in the system. The satellite and router look mostly identical, but there are some differences. You might be able to configure the second one as an access point... but that might defeat the point a bit. That said, they've stated they are going to release individual satellites eventually.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, the Router is a Router and there is nothing in the current firmware to make it mimic the Satellite. The Router and Satellite in the package come pre-paired to make it easier on the end-user. There are SYNCH buttons on the units to pair them manually. Netgear will offer the satellites individually eventually, do not think they have announced a date yet.
