This does not get connected to your router, this is an extender, which extends the Orbi system if you need further coverage outside. This is for homes thats are concrete or upstairs, where the signal needs a bit more strength. Also, you must have the Orbi router to use this extender, which comes with everything you need to connect to an existing router (ethernet cable) This system is great for me and works with my Xfinity blast account. I do not loose speed and we go as fast as our devices permit wirelessly.I hope that helps..
