You have to plug one device into your router and then insert that same device into a nearby electrical outlet. Then you can plug the other device in a basement or any other rooms electrical outlet. This enables you to have a hardwired connection in the room you choose which is faster than WiFi, you are essentially connecting the second device directly to your router by using your existing electrical wiring throughout your home. Works great, I used mine to connect a smart TV directly to my router.

If you are using a mesh network, it will improve reliability and speeds in you are connecting your node onto a wired backhaul (essentials you are hardwarigning the connection between nodes and router).
