I would always go separate. Here is why. If the WiFi goes bad, with the all in one, then you loose both your modem and your WiFi.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Personal preference, that said I say yes. While you pay a bit more, if one aspect goes down, you don't lose both pieces of hardware. Also, there are seasons when the modem is fine but the router may need to be upgraded because of ISP contract speeds, which would mean upgraded both items because of one aspect. Thus, I have preferred to keep my modem and router separate. My two cents, have a great day!
