You will still need an internet provider. A router will only broadcast the signal your cable company provides.

You wouldn't be able to just WiFi internet without a source of internet to feed the other devices. Direct bean maybe from a phone to a smart tv, but not through WiFi simultaneously with out a gateway.

So quite ideal for HD Netflix, HULU, etc. You do understand however that you need a broadband (internet) connection for any streaming service. The router just carries that WIRELESS internet signal to your TV, tablet or smartphone. Regards
