Yes -only if you have a modem from your cable provider . There's a chance you have a combination modem/router so make sure you don't otherwise you'll need a modem, you can buy one of those too but then you'll have to get them to program it.

This depends.... if your cable provided router has the coax cable connected - no. As this would mean that you need a router is also a cable modem. If the cable provided router does not have a coax cable connected - yes it will replace it. Be warned - if you are leaseing the equipment you don't want to trash it. 

Contact your cable provider for specifics on buying a replacement cable modem or a replacement cable modem router as the MAC address must be updated on your account.
