I just got done studying Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6a cables, used for gigabit connectivity. Bottom line... Use Cat5e or Cat6 for your networking cables if you really want to push your networking speed beyond 100Mbit. The older cables don't have the tighter twist that Cat5e specifies. Cat6 introduced a heavier wire gauge and an insulator that the wires wrap around, causing the wire to become larger in diameter, and requiring a larger bend radius. If the cabling is to be used in an industrial environment containing large electro-magnetic fields, you may wish to get a shielded version of the cable, where each pair has a metalized mylar shield, along with a shield inside the outer jacket.

There are three other computers besides mine on site (besides two tablets). All work very well being in four different corners of the house. My son told me we get good reception outside also.
