If you are asking if this router will replace your internet service, it cannot. It can only act as connection between an internet service and your network. If you have another internet service to connect the router to (beside for your cable service), than the answer may be yes. I don't know if that helps.

It is a device used to route traffic from your internet (in your case, cable), to your home network through Wireless, or wired connections. It also offers advanced menus so you can customize your network (Providing wireless and security, routing ports to individual systems, and blocking certain traffic). Think of the internet coming into your house as a large multi-lane highway.... a router just allows you to stipulate special rules for that traffic coming in, kind of like an interchange. You can block semi-trucks, or blue cars, give red cars priority on the highway.... but instead of cars... it's your data. A router does not provide internet in of itself, so you will still have to pay for your internet.
