Thank you for contacting NewAir! The unit has a locking mechanism. The temperature range is 40-50 F (upper zone) 50-66 F (lower zone). The unit can store champagne bottles but it would hold less depending on the bottle size. Yes, the unit can be placed under a counter for it has front ventilation. Best Regards, Customer Service
