“The rear camera does not come on when the main unit is on. I have set the setting in the unit to the rear camera on setting and the cables have been run correctly. Is the unit defective or am I doing something wrong?”

I found what was wrong. The rear camera plug and the extension wire go together with a specific notch. It is a small notch in the plug, but it has to go together exactly for the rear camera to activate.
