“Does the DVR have to be hard wired to the router via ethernet or is there a wireless option? Is it possible to hook up a wireless dongle to the back of the DVR for internet connectivity? My router is downstairs however the Night Owl DVR will be in a locked closet upstairs as the cameras are going to be up on the second floor. It would have to be an extremely long Ethernet cable to run one from the DVR to the router”

I had the same problem and used a pair of powerline ethernet adapters and it works great.
