QuestionHow long are the wires? How far away from the main unit can a camera be installed?

- Answer Each camera comes with a 60 ft. BNC cable to connect the camera to power and the DVR. We do not recommend going further than 160 ft. out from the DVR. Thank you!

QuestionCan i get a battery backup?

- Answer I don't see why you couldn't use a standard UPS backup similar to a computer UPS. You would just need to buy a big enough UPS to support the power required by the cameras and the DVR to run for however long you need or expect to not have power. I'm not sure what the power draw is on these, but I can't imagine it's very much.

- Answer This model is our C20X Wired DVR which can hold up to 8 cameras. However, the model you listed in the question is a 4 Channel Wireless NVR that is capped at 4 total cameras. Thank you!

QuestionWhy when i turn on dvr and hdmi is connected to tv monitor it says format not accepted

- Answer Please ensure 1) that your TV or monitor is a minimum 1080p resolution, 2) that you are tuned to the correct HDMI port on the TV/monitor and 3) that your video cables are securely connected. QuestionIs there a recording buffer? Meaning, when motion is detected, does it (or can it) record some number of buffered seconds prior to the trigger? Or does it only record from the moment of motion forward? If so, how many seconds back does it buffer?

- Answer Depending on how you setup the motion detection. There is a human detect feature that will help if you don't want it to detect animals etc. Otherwise if you are looking to detect animals or whatever you can turn that off and have it alert based on all motion detected with adjustable sensitivity.

- Answer No, these are not battery powered cameras. They must be connected to the provided camera power adapter, which must be connected to a power outlet at all times. There is no need to charge or recharge the cameras. If they are not connected to a power source using the provided cabling and adapters, they will not function. Thank you!

QuestionI need a system where I can keep video stored for about 3 years. I will have 4-5 cameras on motion. I know that a terabyte will last me about 45 days with motion cameras. Can I down load to portable hard drives with 6+terabyte storage??

- Answer Most Night Owl DVR/NVRs can accommodate larger hard drives. See your product Specifications for the max size. Our DVR/NVRs are compatible with internal SATA HDD's, 2.5" or 3.5". The HDD should have a minimum of 7200 RPM. We are not able to guarantee compatibility with external hard drives at this time. Additionally, you can backup recordings to a USB flash drive for off site storage. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!

QuestionIs it right that the Minimum Operating Temperature only -4 degrees farhrenheit? We live in Minnesota. The temp in winter can go way down to -30 degrees fahrenheit? Can the camera do zooming?

- Answer No this system is 100% wired. They have other systems that are wireless, and some that are both wired and wireless, but this one has no wireless capabilities.
