Its controlled by a mouse with about a 3 ft cord connected to the back of the DVR.

Good question. To gain full access to the DVR and all of its features, you will need to connect the DVR to a TV or monitor. You can do this with an HDMI cable. The DVR includes an HDMI cable and mouse so you can access all of the features. We call this 'local viewing'. If you want to view the DVR and cameras from your computer (via our Free software) or from a phone or tablet (via or Free App), you can do this as well. Though you will not be able to access of the the DVRs features, you will be able to access many of them. We call this 'remote viewing'. Thank you for choosing Night Owl!
