Yes it is. This was a gift for my mother who needed one that is made for beginners and can easily transition for the more experienced. It's functions are simple and easy to follow.

A few things to keep in mind with this camera - you are limited to using the lenses on Nikon 1, if you decide that you want to step up to a better camera later on down the road you will have to buy a new body and a new lenses. The Nikon 1 is a mirrorless camera, which means it is smaller and lighter, but unless you purchase a lens adapter, you can only use the Nikon 1 lenses. A better starter camera might be the Nikon D3400, it will give you the true feeling of a DSLR. It's comparable in price on Best Buy's site and you get two lenses with it instead of only one like you do with the Nikon 1. I own both a Nikon 1 and a standard DSLR (Nikon D7100) and I bought the Nikon 1 as a quick "throw it in my bag" camera if I am going someplace like a theme park or out walking around during the day on a trip. Both a mirrorless and standard DSLR will shoot in RAW and give you the ability to shoot in manual, aperture, or shutter priority modes so they have that in common. Overall think about what you want to do with the camera - if you want to start learning more about DSLRs and grow into a better one in the future,you should look at a D series camera.
