Does this work on a Nikon d5100? null

No, AF-P type lenses, like the Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR listed here, are not compatible with the Nikon D5100. For a fully compatible lens for the D5100 DSLR camera look into AF-S and newer E-type lenses. AI and AF-type lenses are also able to be used with some limitation on this camera model.
