• The 40mm MICRO-NIKKOR Lens is an excellent portrait lens. It's aperture of 2.8 is excellent for making your subject standout from it's background!

• I have not taken Portait pictures of people but the pictures of my sister's cats turned out beautiful. If I had to venture a guess I would say yes.
