No, this is more of portrait, long distance lense. Digital lenses generally at about 1.5 x the rating for a 35mm film camera lens, and that works out to this being about an 80mm - 300 mm zoom. Nikon makes an excellent 18 - 55mm zoom lens (in both vr and non-vr) which I would highly recommend if you need a good wide angle to normal lens.

Generally a 10-20mm lens fall more in the wide angle lens. 55-200mm lens is better suited to nature and sports photos.
