The fast f/1.4 maximum aperture makes this lens good for low-light photography, however the 50mm focal length when used on an APS-C crop sensor (Nikon DX) body, will make it hard to get astrophotography shots. Instead you should consider something like the Nikon AF-S Nikkor 20mm f/1.8G or a 14mm f/2.8 or better lens.
