• The AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G will autofocus with the D3200. All Nikon AF-S, and AF-I lenses will autofocus with the D3200.

• He was referring to the 1.8d version of this lens, which is about $100 less expensive. The 1.8G version has a built-in motor for Autofocus and will work beautifully with your camera. A must have lens for any Nikon shooter, specially for portraits and low light.

• Yes this lens will auto focus. Just purchased and it works fine. Associate gave you wrong information.
