There are a number of differences between these two lenses. The Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.4G has a Nano Crystal Coating which is an anti-reflective coating that helps reduce internal reflections across a wide range of wavelengths. It also has 9 rounded blades instead of 7 and one more internal lens element than the 85mm f/1.8G lens. This makes it super-sharp and ultra-fast for superior depth-of-field control and background blur. However, if you're looking for a light-weight lens that is meant for travel, the 85mm f/1.8G lens is a great choice! The versatile 85mm f/1.8G prime lens is ideal for capturing exceptional portraiture, wedding and concert images with fast and quiet AF. Either of these lenses would be a remarkable addition to any growing camera bag.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The 85 1.8g is an excellent lens that can be used both for portrait work and as a short telephoto for landscape or any other type of photography. It is extremely sharp and has excellent bokeh (Out of focus characteristics). The 1.4G is more portrait work oriented and is not as good at distance as the 1.8G. It also focuses slower. It does have about the best bokeh you can find on a Nikon Lens.
