I use the "AF-S DX Micro NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8G" for micro photography. I also use the "AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G" when I can't get as close to the subject. Both lens will work on your D3400, to my knowledge (i.e., I owned and used these lens on my D3300 before moving up to the D750).
