“Zoom vs. Telephoto for D3100? What is difference? I am ignorant about D-SLR cameras and lenses. Please tell me what the zoom lens does vs. the telephoto. I am looking for getting close up to far away things.”

telephoto is longer then a standard lens and is only one focal length - usually over 50mm (ie. 300mm, or 400mm) and zoom is a range of focal lengths. like 20-200 is a wide to telephoto zoom.
