The yellow square on the screen of the Nikon COOLPIX S7000 indicates where the focus will go if you press the shutter button down halfway (AF-S Mode only) or fully(AF-F or Pre-AF Mode). If you are using AF-S Mode the yellow will change to green when you do a light press on the shutter button to let you know you have achieved focal lock. A full press down on the shutter button after achieving focal lock allows for a clear and focused image.
