The Nikon D5300 DSLR camera does not have a built-in motor as the Nikon D90 DSLR camera does. This means it must use an AF-S type lens to get the full autofocus capabilities from the lens. Any AF style lenses you used with the D90 can be used with the D5300, however, the lens will have limited functionality and will have to be manually adjusted to get it to focus.
