“How does the wi-fi work on this camera? Can I be absolutely anywhere and it will connect to my iPhone? Say, during a hike? Or do I have to be connected to my home wi-fi in order for it to transfer photos wirelessly to my phone?”

The Nikon D5300 has built-in Wi-fi that can connect to compatible Android or iOS smart devices that are running the Nikon Wireless Mobile Utility (WMU) App. No wireless hotspot or additional wireless service is required to make this connection.
