Nikon lenses are all designed to work with Nikon's F-mount system, which is available on both Nikon DX-format and FX-format cameras, allowing for a large variety of NIKKOR lenses and DSLRs to be interchangeable with one another. This means it's possible that some of the lenses you already have may be completely compatible with the Nikon D5600 camera. AF-S, AF-P and newer E-type lenses are all fully compatible with the Nikon D5600 DX-format DSLR camera, so if you were using AF-S and E-type lenses with your Nikon D40 DX-format DSLR camera, they will work with the D5600 camera. The D5600 can also use AI and AF lenses with some limitation; AF-type lenses will need to be manually focused while AI-type lenses will require the use of a light meter for proper exposure. For more information on DX and FX-format cameras and lens compatibility, please contact Nikon Support.
