Not sure where you heard the 'new patch' is going to be made in Japan. Nothing official indicates that. The Nikon D850 is manufactured in Thailand. Regardless, it is manufactured under strict guidance of Nikon engineers and must meet the Nikon specifications for the camera. It is a great camera, and from all of the reviews of the 'Thailand' manufactured version being so great, I do not understand your concern about where it is manufactured, unless you just do not want to buy something manufactured in China, which this camera is NOT.

The label on the bottom says Thailand (much like my 700, 800, and 810) The serial code starts with a 3 and per Nikon that is the US model.
