  • Question
Which flash would you recommend for the D7100? The SB-5000 AF or the SB-910 and why?   (1 Answer)

      Answer

Both the SB-5000 and the SB-910 are compatible with the D7100, and either would be a good choice for this camera. The SB-5000 is Nikon’s newest Speedlight, and replaces the SB-910 as our flagship Speedlight. The SB-5000 Speedlight features a new internal cooling system, which prevents overheating of the flash panel from consecutive firings. As a result, the SB-5000 can fire consecutively for longer than conventional models, without flash cool-down time between bursts, and can fire up to 120 continuous shots at 5 second intervals. The SB-5000 is also smaller than the SB-910 and features more streamlined controls. The SB-5000 and the SB-910 are both part of Nikon’s Creative Lighting System and can be triggered remotely (optically) using the D7100’s built-in flash. The SB-500 also features a radio control option, but this feature is not supported by the D7100.

      Answer

The SB5000 flash IS compatible with the D7100. You would be able to operate the SB5000, wirelessly, on the D7100, using the camera's COMMANDER MODE. It will be controlled optically and not via radio control.

Yes the manual states it is compatible with D750. D750 does not support radio trigger, but you could use optical control for line of sight trigger. The SB5000 is smaller and more powerful than the SB910 it works great on my D850, D810 and D700.

You'd need an SU-800 to do that, or another SB-5000 in Master Mode.

I have a Nikon D7200 and a D40. I want a good flash that I can use with both of my Nikons. Is the SB 5000 q good choice for me?   (1 Answer)

The Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight can work with both the Nikon D7200 and the Nikon D40, however, because the D40 does not have filter detection, it will be necessary to set the camera's white balance to whatever filter is being used when using this camera with the SB-5000. Yes. The Nikon SB-5000 AF Speedlight is compatible with the Nikon D610 DSLR camera. This speedlight features a new internal cooling system, which prevents overheating of the flash panel from consecutive firings. As a result, the SB-5000 can fire consecutively for longer than conventional models, without flash cool-down time between bursts, and can fire up to 120 continuous shots at 5 second intervals. In addition the controls on the SB-5000 are streamlined for easy access. This speedlight can be triggered remotely using the D610's built-in flash with commander mode. The SB-5000 also has a radio control option, but that feature is not supported by the Nikon D610.
