“How does this compare with similar models from Sony and Canon as far as Image/sensor/processing quality? Really want a small high end camera yet don't want to spend 1200 for the rx100 VI. Really need 2 cameras...suggestions?”

Please read this and you may have a better idea about what you will buy. https://www.techradar.com/news/best-mirrorless-camera I had a hard time to decide between Sony and Nikon and just bought Nikon Z6 based on overall factors including the time of it release, cost, functions including IS, photo quality, and hand-hold, etc. I tried Sony found the following: Cost is high, hand-hold-too small for my hands, it is two years old but its auto focus is better than Nikon Z6 that has better video and very nice photo quality. Canon is out of my consideration because it lacks the image stabilization-IS, video crop affecting the video quality and price is high. Good luck!

Picture quality equals and in a lot of cases exceeds Sony and Cannon, See Anthony Morganti's review of the Z6 at Iammrphotographer.com. I have a lot of F mount Nikon lenses which will work just fine if you purchase the FTZ adaptor when you buy the camera. It costs $249.00. The kit lens that comes with the camera is a 24-70 f4 which is actually a very nice lens. I have a Nikon D700, D500, and now the Z6 and am very happy with the camera.
