I don’t know the exact weight, maybe 3-4lbs. it’s pretty solid .
As far as the filters, we use them all the time to make cleanup easier and it has never overflowed. It may be that someone is using the wrong type of filter.

Who cares? Are you mounting it on a house of cards? It doesn't weigh much. Paper filters are just an option to the tight screen filter under it. It might overflow if you put too much water in the water bin compared to the amount of coffee bean in the grinder, or the amount of ground coffee in the filter.
