The filter that comes with the coffeemaker isn't great for medium or fine coffee grains. You would have to buy the cone shaped filters at Walmart or Target. Reason I say that is because you will have some coffee grains that aren't caught buy the ninja filter in your coffee.

It is recommended to use a medium ground coffee. If you like a richer, more robust coffee, you can get this from medium ground coffee. The Cafe Forte and Specialty brew, take coffee to the next level. Cafe Forte is a robust cupful of complex flavors, bringing out the nuances of your coffee for a full-bodied gourmet experience. Specialty Brew is a super-rich concentrate that can be combined with frothed milk to create bold, decadent coffeehouse-style drinks—hot or cold, layered or blended. With this being said, you can use fine ground coffee in this machine; however, it is recommended to use a paper filter instead of the included Permanent Reusable Filter. This will prevent sediment.
