Yes it does make drinkable smoothies. You’d just have to add more liquid and or ice to get it to your preferred consistency.

It's just often hard to make thick ones with other blenders without blowing the motor so they're just emphasizing this one can handle it. I make mine less thick so it will last longer, thick smoothies are much harder on blenders and they wear out faster in my experience.
