A:Answerplastic but it should be quite durable and pretty safe as I don't sense the blades as designed will snap off and go through the wall of the pitcher. I have had that happen with other brands of blenders and it is kind of scary. These blades seem a lot safer in the actual design of the stem. Still anything could happen but if there was a real issue we would see a lot of people warning all of us.
