“Can you use paper filters in place of the permanent filter?”

Yes you can thats what I use in mine paper filters are convenient cause you just throw them away saves the washing time but yes you can use paper filters

Yes, you can remove the permanent filter and just put a paper one in the basket.

Sure can. you can take the metal filter out and slam a disposable one in there instead.
