“Is it possible to use less pellets to have less smoky flavor”

• Yes you can, you can also smoke for less time. We grill our steaks on high for 3 minutes per side, med rare. I start the igniter just before the pre-heat is done. I get a nice smoke flavor but not overpowering. I've also used other brand of pellets with different flavors(Kona on amazon) and they work very well too.
