He has 3 hearts by default, but the WiiU remake of Zelda: Twilight Princess added a Wolf Link exclusive dungeon. During this dungeon you can save *current* hearts to the amiibo, and when summoned to BotW that will be his max hearts. It's recommended you get the full 20 then get to the save point either healed or without taking damage. Wolf Link can be healed in BotW by giving him food, but not above the max hearts saved to the amiibo. Since he has no defense, he doesn't generally last long against high level enemies. But he will manage for a while if he has the full 20. If he dies while summoned, that amiibo can be summoned again until the next day.
