“AT&T supports Nokia 3.4 (TA1285), 5.4(TA1333), 8.3 (TA1243) and 6300 4G (TA-1324). But they do not support 5.3 which I have. Checked with 800 support and at the AT&T store. Where is this limitation coming from?”

ATT only whitelisted those phones that they where paid to certify by the manufacturer which were the newer models. Even though your phone will work on their network because it is VoLTE compatible and all they have to do is flick the switch they want to force you to buy a new phone. ATT offered no help except to get a new phone or use the free garbage phones they sent. So after being an ATT customer for 20 plus years, I switched all eight of my Nokia phones to T-Mobile and they work just fine and magically a VoLTE icon has emerged.
