No, you do not have to subscribe to I-Fit to use the machine. Although, it makes it interactive with automatic adjustments to the resistance and provides a workout to follow. My machine came with a one-year subscription to I-Fit

It can be used in the manual mode without a paid membership. We do recommend trying iFIT to receive the full features of this machine.
