An internal battery, by definition, cannot be removed from the camera - it is inside the camera, along with the processor, photo-sensor etc, all of which cannot be removed. A battery that can be removed is, by definition, an external battery. According to the above widely-accepted definition of internal / external, this camera does NOT have an internal battery. It accepts an external battery which can be inserted into a slot at the side of the camera, and which can, of course, be removed from that slot (because it is an external battery!) Therefore, all those who answered "yes" below me, are wrong, in that, their definition of internal / external does not conform with how the industry uses this terminology.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The battery is removable. The stock charger plugs into the phone to charge the battery. You can also buy a wall charger (ebay/amazon) so that you can charge it externally. That's what I did, bought a couple extra batteries so that I didn't have to wait with the camera plugged in, for it to charge the battery.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The battery goes inside the waterproof flap where the SD card is. It is removable if you want to use an external charger, or just charge it in the camera itself.
