hit the stop button (upper left) then the erase button (lower left).

To erase the files, I just delete them from the computer after I have downloaded it. Since the computer reads it like a thumb drive, I used that feature. There is also an "erase" button on the front as well, and then you just have to arrow over to "yes" to make sure that's what you want to do.
