I have owned one of these great cd changers for a while now, and I highly reccomend it. I'm not sure what type of connections your sound bar and speaker set up have, but the only connections the onkyo has are the red and white audio type connections on the rear of the unit. Mine is connected to a Sony 5.2 receiver. In answer to your second question, All the Cd changer component units I know of require an actual receiver to connect through. If you dont neccesarily need a large cd changer you probably have a USB port on your sound bar you could connect an Ipod, or other portable device, possibly even a compact stereo with the built in cd changer. Don't forget you can always play your cd's through a dvd or blu ray also. The bottom line is if you want to use this you are going to need a stereo receiver.. A 2 channel receiver will set you back about $100 to $200.. Good luck with everything I hope this helps you out.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Others have said no, but though I am not SURE I think the answer is yes and this is why: I have a Sony cd player (not a receiver or amp, just a cd player) and when I connect it via optical cable to my Vizio 5.1 sound bar, it plays beautifully. I could be wrong but I think the Sound Bar itself serves as the "receiver or amplifer" that decodes dts and dolby etc. All I know is I am getting 5.1 surround from the sound bar directly from the Sony CD player without a receiver/amplifier.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think if the TV has RCA or optical input jacks then you can hook up that way. This CD player has both RCA and Optical output jacks.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.this only plays CDs for audio.. and it does it stereo... you can use a multi-channel receiver to drive 2 speakers if your receiver allows it though...
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.not sure what input plugs and how many choices are on your sound bar . the player needs RCA plug inputs and a amplifier. I don't use a soundbar and it will only be 2 channel stereo
