I am trying to set up my new 6 CD player but I keep getting "mech error" message and the carriage does not open. Can anyone help with that? null

I just had a similar problem. My Onkyo DX-C390 played for a few days and then today gave me a MECH-ERROR message. Here is what I found. By tilting the player forward with the power off, my 6 CDs slid out. The unit then turned on and opened normally. When I looked at my CDs, I noticed they were warped. I keep some of them in a 200 CD vinyl folder I bought. They got warped in there. I presume the warped CD got caught on something inside the CD player. I hope this helps.

Something you may need to check for is a travel screw. Some units will have a screw on the bottom that keeps the tray and carousel from moving around too much during shipping. Your problem doesn't sound like that but it never hurts to check.

That sounds as if there is a problem with the tray. This is most likely not something you will be able to fix and will need to be returned to the store for replacement.
