“Purchased 2 replacing 21 & 18 year old CD players (Sony & JVC). One player always skips on CD #1. No matter what CD, swap location in carousel and fine. Can't be reader or gears, verified pristine CD's skip like I drove over them if loaded #1 location.”

My unit does the same. I’m blaming the display shelf which is slightly off level. I will remedy that and hope it helps. My old Yamaha carousel rarely skipped.
