“Can you pass both the video and audio tv signal thru receiver when in standby mode? There are times I want to watch tv without the surround sound system being on. ( ie late at night while others are sleeping )”

no it has to be on for the signal to pass through. unless you have an AV splitter in that case you can hook up a nice pair of turtle beach head phones that has a 10' cord AV L / R and a USB to power the head phones with adjustable base, and volume knobs . I have this set up for my game system so i can turn off my receiver and crank up the sound in my earphones without waking the wife.
