The telo unit has a specific place to plug in a phone so yes, you do not need a phone jack. I have a Panasonic phone with an answering system plugged in although the telo unit has an answering system itself.

You can either plug 1 phone directly into the Ooma Telo Air 2, or you can plug the Ooma phone jack into your home phone wall jack to extend phone connections to all of the wall jacks in the house (after physically disconnecting your house from external phone service). You could also buy a simple phone jack splitter plugged into the Ooma to do both (direct to 1 phone and 1 into wall jack).
