Ooma requires an internet connection, so you would pay for that service, and the only other charge is for the related taxes on your phone service. My tax is $7.12 in my area, and no other charge. You can check to see what the phone taxes are in your area, as they are different depending on your location. I am very pleased with the Ooma. Works great!

As a new user they can set you up with a menu of services that range from $5-$10/month or a discount if you pay for an entire year. They have information on the web: https://www.ooma.com/home-phone/plans/ The customer service is exceptional. They will walk you through each step. We are pleased with our service.

Basic Ooma charges only for telephone taxes. I guesstimate that it will drop my phone bill to $5 or $6 dollars a month for local, state and Federal taxes. They offer a tax cost estimator here: https://shop.ooma.com/tax_calculator I added the optional Premier service for an additional $9 a month. It adds several interesting voice mail, integration, three-way calling, call blocking and mobile features in addition to calls to Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico. The call blocking is worth the $9 alone.
