The batteries can be replaced with a little knowledge and DIY experience. Just make sure you buy the correct battery for the device.
I carried a battery replacement last year without any issues. The batteries do not last too long due to the fact that they are on permanent charge when the bottle opener is stored in the holder (which most people do). Poor design but a useful opener.....
